No holiday gifts where he is now?
I was going to say the same as MDJ. In public school, I guess gifts are not solicited, but I'd feel weird not giving gifts.

there is a gift giving, but it's *very* different than what in jewish schools. size is very attenuated and no coercion. school goes out of its way to stress that "it's the thought that counts" and in fact the amount you can give is limited by law. no $500 gelt gifts here.
$500???!!! There's nothing like that at Ramaz, or if there is, I don't know about it and certainly don't feel pressured by it
